So, My first exhibition of the year is the travelling show of Rosemary Meyers works entitled Ways of attaching, shown in the Swiss Institute in New York and Aachen in Germany,
Covering her work between 70’s,80’s and 90’s the show provides an intriguing overview of her output, from drawings for temporary monuments, illustrations for a book by an Artist and multiple sketches of snapdragons but focussing on Mayer’s formal draping, knotting and tethering textile sculptures, which stole the show.
These sculptures appear ephemeral at first glance but hold space and demand closer inspection, casting shadows and revealing fragile connections between different components that strain against each other
A really inspiring exhibition, all helped by coffee and their fantastic Reuben, salt beef sandwich in Spikes Emmeline café after.
A good start to the year.
